As bikes get lighter and lighter, it’s clear that the next (likely more important) frontier for performance is aerodynamics. Building on the success of our 45mm road clinchers, we’re going to offer a deeper set of wheels for 2015.
Our goal was to maximize aerodynamic benefit and maintain reasonable weight and handling. We’ve come up with an aero wheelset that is versatile enough to be used in a variety of conditions, using a 60mm deep front wheel paired with an 88mm rear. The shallower front rim won’t get pushed around as much as something deeper, and the wide, rounded rim shapes are perfect for all kinds of wind angles (what we refer to as ‘the real world’). Topped off with Sapim CX-Ray bladed spokes (laced radially in the front and 2-cross rear) and our smooth-rolling, easy-to-service Woven hubs, the complete package weighs in at a respectable 1768g. These may not be climbing wheels, but the weight won’t hold you back when the road turns uphill. A perfect setup for triathletes, time trialists, or anyone looking for maximum aero gains.
These wheels are priced at $1300 for the pair with a Shimano/SRAM or Campagnolo 11 speed freehub and decals in the colour(s) of your choice. We’ll have wheels ready to ship in March, but in the meantime you can see some in person at Sweet Ride Cycling in Mahone Bay, NS or at Cyclelogik in Ottawa, ON. If you’d like to reserve a set, visit one of these shops or drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Many thanks to Dave Clee for the beautiful shot of the wheels! Thanks also to Al at Sweet Ride for the photo of the wheels in their new home.
